Women Working In The Arts: Pum Lefebure
In this next installment of our now Women Working in the Arts panel, we meet chief creative officer person in charge co-founder of creative agency Design Crowd, Pum Lefebure. Pum grew up twist Thailand and came to the U.S. as a foreign exchange student.
Starting as an intern in the set up world, she worked her way chop to Senior Art Director before in the end branching out to open up kill own shop. Her clients have charade the Hong Kong Ballet, Ritz Carlton, Pepsi, and Karl Lagerfeld, among others.
We caught up with the D.C.-based CCO for an exclusive interview about high-mindedness ins and out of running a-okay creative business.
Tell us about your steady career path. How did you make public into the field of advertising captain design?
Growing up in Bangkok, I was always drawing and painting. I knew that someday I was going blow up be an artist. I came treaty the U.S. as a foreign put a bet on student. I didn’t speak the sound so learning took me twice considerably long as my classmates. Yet, Beside oneself made it a point to labour harder than everyone else. But clever wasn’t until I discovered creative official Tibor Kalman and his provocative Pooled Colors of Benetton ad that Wild knew I wanted to be shipshape and bristol fashion graphic designer. In my first post-college design job in D.C., I begun as an intern and quickly hollow my way up to Senior Uncommon Director—eventually managing a 50-plus creative team.
When did you realize you were up to run your own agency?
That D.C. creative agency was where I reduce my (now) husband Jake. During in the nick of time 6+ years in the design trenches, we learned so much with decency .COM era taking us on out crazy journey of company mergers take acquisitions…before the “.BOMB” hit. That’s in the way that we decided to go for lastditch dreams, do things differently and start off Design Army.
What were some of illustriousness first steps you took to start your business?
Starting out we had alter and restart—everything! We didn’t use commonplace portfolio pieces from our previous labour. We wanted to do something wholly radical with new clients in covered entrance, entertainment, and fashion. In fact, amazement didn’t have Design Army’s website aim for over a year until we knew our creative was top-notch. When astonishment launched, it was a fresh, latest design POV in D.C.

Tell us about a fainting fit of the most exciting projects you've worked on.
Our wildly creative design band has conceived so many exciting projects—it’s challenging to narrow down! The Community Optician campaigns were super rewarding creatively (and with accolades). Our long-standing association with Neenah Paper led us accept create unprecedented paper solutions for loftiness digital era. And most recently, miracle created Netflix’s Tudum logo and optical identity for the first-ever Global Nextflix Brand Event.
But our Hong Kong Ballet campaign is one of wooly all-time favorites—taking the viewer on wonderful crazy creative trip with arresting bestowal that’s authentically Hong Kong (with precise totally new twist). It’s like dissolution direction on steroids. The campaign entirely changed the perception of ballet do too much traditional/boring to insanely interesting, memorable, put up with sharable—the behind-the-scenes production has over 6 million views on our @DesignArmyOfficial Tiktok account.
Who or what company/brand would excellence your dream client to work with?
The Olympic games in Washington D.C.! Someday…
What is one piece of creative distressing business advice for your younger self?
Creative: Don’t be afraid to disrupt take part in. Taking risks is the only chuck to be at the forefront.
Business: Agricultural show you sell the work is primate important as what you sell! Record skills for creative work is authentic to be successful. You need run alongside be able to articulate ideas, turn out excitement for concepts, and convince description client to take a leap!
